Sensory Integration (SI)

Sensory Integration (SI) therapy is a specialized approach designed to help individuals, particularly children, better process and respond to sensory information from their environment. Developed by occupational therapist Jean Ayres, SI therapy focuses on improving the brain's ability to organize and interpret sensory inputs, such as touch, sound, sight, and movement. This approach is particularly beneficial for individuals with sensory processing disorders, autism spectrum disorders, or developmental delays, as it helps them develop more effective sensory and motor skills. During SI therapy, therapists use a variety of sensory activities and exercises to engage the individual in meaningful play and movement, aiming to enhance their ability to respond appropriately to sensory stimuli. By improving sensory processing, SI therapy can lead to better attention, coordination, and behavioral responses, ultimately supporting overall developmental and functional progress.
